Welcome from the President of Ateg Martina Osawamick:
ATeg welcomes you to the 20th Anniversary Conference being held March 26 to 30, 2014 at Kewadin Convention Centre, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Our theme is "Shkweyaang naabiing miinwaa Niigan naabiing: Looking back and Looking Forward"
This year, we celebrate and acknowledge the significant roles of our past founders and supporters throughout the past twenty years. Many language keepers have died and are not with us today. However, we still continue on to fulfill the dreams they had to have Anishinaabemowin come back and stay alive. We must continue to find and harness new energy to keep the momentum in the movement of preserving Anishinaabemowin. We can only move forward because of and with the power and intent of those who came before us. The journey of revitalization will have many faces and take several generations. We must continue the strengthening in every generation.
This year, during opening ceremonies, we have Wab Kinew delivering the Keynote Address on looking forward and sharing his ideas on the future of the language. Next, at the Founders Honouring Luncheon, Anishinaabe Elder and Lifetime Member Shirley Williams gives Keynote comments, looking back at the history of Anishinaabemowin Teg.
We will see you there!
