Water Walks: Rice Lake 2010 & Stoney Lake 2011

Aanii Boozhoo!

Anishinaabe-kweg gii-mosaadaanaawaa nbi maan pii ni keyaa Peterborough. In 2010 gii-maajaataawag gii-mosaadaanaawaa gii-giiwtaasewag Mino-minikaaning zaagigan, ngowaak-zhi-zhaangswi-dbaabaan minik, niizhigwan-shaa-aaptaa minik gii-nzekaawaag wii-mosewaad.

Here in Peterborough Native women have walked the water . They started in 2010 and they walked around the Rice lake area that was 109 km and they made in two and half days.

Liz Osawamik, Shirley Williams,Paula Mayers, chris welter, Gerogie-Horton-Baptise miinwa go aanind kwewag,  Milbrook gii-binji-baawag. Zhaaginaash-kweg ngii-naadimaagonaanig.

Some women were: Liz Osawamik, Shirley Williams, Paula Mayers, chris welter, Gerogie-Horton-Baptise and some other women who were not native that came from Milbrook and surrounding area.

2011 at Stoney Lake is the name of the lake, they walked around it bringing awareness the state of the water condition and to bless it. The water is becoming polluted and people are not taking care of it.

Giish pin gegoo mkwaadaagiziswong, ooshime da ni wiinaagimi nbi miinwaa da ni binaajikaade. Mii dash gonda kwewag enji zhidchigewaad iw, mosaadaanaawaa nbi , da nametaanaawaa nbi niiwiing nke’aa eshseg zaagigan, epiichi mosewaad ni ngamtaanaawaa nbi. Esa naa gegii niinwi, naadimaagedaa wii-gchi-taawendamog nbi!  Mii maanda gaa miingoziyang, Gzhe-mnidoo gii-miingonaa maanda pii giizhitood ki!

If we do not do anything about it, it will be more polluted and it will be unclean water and be more dirty. This why these women have taken the walk to bring awareness and to walk it, sing to it and pray for it in four directions of the lakes. Lets help and do our part. Let us look at the water as holy water that was given to us by our Spirit when the earth was created.
